Spice of Life

I love crocheting in the spring and summer, it’s the best time of year to take advantage the benefits of cotton – crochet was made for cotton. I also love the casual mix-n-match aesthetic that  works so well with crochet. Spice of Life epitomizes that simple, happy aesthetic. Plus it’s a great opportunity to experiment with new stitches without commitment – it’s only a row or two, and there’s an enough going on visually that if you make a mistake nobody will ever notice.

If you just can’t get your head around cotton or just want an airier/squishier aesthetic try using Cascade 220 Superwash Sport. We’ve listed the colours that correspond closely to those used in the pattern (see below), but the Cascade 220 Superwash Sport is definitely closest to the original. We’ve also suggested some alternatives that looked pretty.

I’m not personally crazy about the colour choice for the border (that’s more minty green than I can live with). For the Cascade Ultra Pima I like either 3759 Taupe or 3772 Cornflower, and with Cascade 220 Superwash Sport I’d use either 204 Smoke Blue/910 Summer Sky Heather or 219 Moon Rock.
