PROJECTS 7 Classic Bulky Baby Blankets

I’ve been receiving a lot of requests for baby blanket projects for less experienced knitters. All the projects below are make with one yarn, in one colour, and feature a texture created with knit and purl stitches. They are all made with 6mm/US10 needles, to get things moving along at a brisk pace! I also recommend using Berroco Vintage Chunky, an affordable, soft, machine washable blend of wool & synthetic that comes in a bunch of pretty colours. Sunshine Chevron

The simple chevron texture in this blanket makes me happy and reminds me of simple graphic prints and classic Charles Schultz characters.

This pattern actually comes in a series of sizes, up to a XXL afghan, but what can be scaled up can also be scaled down.

Cuddly Baby Blanket

A simple, repetitive pattern makes a classic blanket in a pretty colour.

Size: approx. 31 x 34″

Garter Block Baby Blanket

The building blocks of life … is actually DNA, but simple blocks make for a great blanket too!

Size

  • approx. 34″ x 34″ (depending on your tension)
  • to make blanket wider add stitches in increments of 16 stitches (16 sts = approx 4.5″)

Materials

Guernsey Style Baby Blanket

This blanket is more of an intermediate level knit, but I thought I’d throw it in because it looks so nice and makes such a lovely, classic gift.

Size

  • approx. 24″ x 25″ (or larger, depending on your tension)
  • to make blanket wider add stitches in increments of 8 stitches
