PREORDER Fryda Kit

Fryda

I found this little number in my email today and smacked my head – why didn’t I remember this cardie earlier in the season?! Ah well, everything has its time, now must be the right time for Fryda. The style is classic, a pretty cardie you can throw on over anything. I liked it so much I immediately sent in an order for a kit for myself and started adding it to our system so you can have at it too. This could be my new go-to sweater project …

Fryda is my kind of knit – it’s a simple cardie knit in one piece from the top-down. As far as the construction goes, it’s a lot of flow. The only technically interesting part is in the button band, which is worked semi-separately and then seamed with mattress stitch, but it’s such a pretty detail and gives it that little bit of polish – I think the effort will be minimal compared to the pay-off. I think an advanced beginner would be fine with this pattern.

The yarn is really the star of the show here – the very subtle mottled effect is created by holding 1 strand of a worsted weight yarn with 1 strand of a hand-dyed kid-mohair … a simple system but the effect is magic! The kid mohair also gives the sweater a bit of texture, softening the outline with a gentle aura. The combination also bulks up the tension, making it a little bit faster to work-up on 5.5mm/US9 needles.

So, what do you think? Should I host a knitalong? Let me know!
