NEW Interweave Knits Accessories 2009

NEW Interweave Knits Accessories 2009 ~ $18.95

Interveave is kickin’ out the jams this fall, their third special issue just arrived – Accessories.  It is so new that Interweave doesn’t seem to even have it up on their website yet (which you know, if you are a follower of their publications, sets a precedent because they normally publicize on their website well in advance of shipping). It’s not specifically a gifts theme, but accessories are normally small projects and small project make perfect holiday gifts. Patterns include scarves, cowls, wraps, shawls, ponchos, socks, hats, berets, headbands, mitts, gloves, gauntlets/fingerless mitts, and a pair of lace cuffs to get your get your inner frou-frou on (note, you probably should avoit eating soup while wearing froufy lace cuffs).  There is also an article on how to knit socks (from the cuff down). There are patterns for men, women and children – but as always, the bulk are for women.

One thing I noticed is that this issue is predominantly (but not exclusively) a compilation – while there are some new patterns, there are also a lot that have been re-published from former publications. It’s sort of like the flash-back episodes on the Simpsons – a bunch of classics bound together with some novel new material. The patterns are taken from both their books and magazines. Off the top of my head i recognize some from Knitscene, Scarf Style, Interweave Knits, Getting Started Knitting Socks, Interweave Knits Holiday Gifts, Boutique Knits and Wrap Style.

NEW – Interweave Knits Holiday Gifts

I am so sorry it has been so long updating the site. We’ve been really busy with so many of you coming in and so much new stock arriving!  Fall is always a heavy time of year for new books & magazines, and I can barely keep up with them!

Interweave Knits Holiday Gifts

This year’s gift issue is packed to the rafters with great ideas! It is a little more expensive this year, ringing in at $18.99, but it is packed with patterns and it’s been selling well so I don’t expect it will be around too long. You can see all of the patterns HERE. If you like small projects in general, this issue is for you. There are also a few good mens’ sweaters, which is a rare commodity.  We also still have copies of last year’s issue,  Interweave Knits Holiday Gifts 2008.

New Interweave Knits Weekend Magazine

This special issue from Interweave Knits looks like a keeper! I expect I’ll have to re-order soon, but you should make sure you get a copy because the print run is sure to run out and once it’s gone. (Interweave will likely eventually publish the patterns on their website for you to purchase but they cost $5 (US) each, making magazines a really great deal in the long term.)

By the way, keep your eyes peeled for a series of 8 freebies on knittingdaily.com starting Sept 18!  Also remember, Interweave’s free patterns are not always offered forever and some are only free for a limited time, so be sure to download the free patterns you like and ferret them away somewhere safe, like on a USB Flash Stick.

Interweave Knits Spring 2009

The Spring 2009 Interweave Knits ($7.99) has also been around for a few weeks already but it’s worth taking a glance because there are some really nice projects!

Super pretty Silk Cocoon Cardigan

Diminshing Rib Cardigan, make it in cotton or wool or anything that’s worsted weight!

Whisper Cardigan is made with lace wight yarn

Net Duffle Bag, prefect in Super 10 cotton!

Interweave Crochet Spring 2009

The new Spring 2009 Interweave Crochet just arrived and its got some really nice projects, and only $7.99!

I love the Still Waters Shrug ! It is great for all seasons, even winter, but especially Spring and Summer. When I get a chance I’m going to make this one for sure. I really like shrugs because they are the perfect little cover up with dresses and skirts, they are a fast little project and relatively simply shaped, so I don’t have to pay too much attention.

This is a super Recessionista Project! I really like lacy cravats and scarves like Emerald Scarf because they are an easy, fancy accessory that instantly makes an outfit interesting and pretty. The last ready-to-wear one I saw that was made from an so-so fibre was more than $100, but if you used the exact yardage in Misti Alpaca Laceweight it would only cost $34 (although i don’t expect that the project would actually use more than 1000m, which would bring it to $25.50).

A great looking wide brimmed hat is a VERY good thing! Especially an Audrey crocheted hat because you can squish it and travel with it without wrecking it. If you want the brim to have more structure you can get hat wire from a sewing store and feed it though the brim. To i would crochet a flap at the edge and turn it down and sew it in place to make a ‘pocket’ to house the wire so you can’t see it, or alternately just crochet it to the edge with a slip stitch.)
