Noro Stripe Scarf Part 2

In my previous post I promised I would show you what  Noro Kureopatora looks like worked up in a single colourway.

This is Charles’ glorious Noro Striped Scarf, he used 4.5mm/US7 needles and 2 skeins of Noro Kureopatora in colourway 1021. To make things easier we chose 2 balls that started in different parts of the colourway, and off he went!

New Project: Noro Striped Scarf

Finally, I have something for your famished eyes, a recently finished Noro Striped Scarf! Simple yet effective, the NSS is straightforward, easy knitting, with a glorious effect! Can’t go wrong!

We Used

We alternated 2 colours (see below), but we’ve also seen stunning results with 2 balls of the same colour, but started at different parts of the colourway (colour 1021 – will try to capture a pic!). We used Noro Kureopatora (it has amazing yardage!), but the pattern looks equally stunning made with Noro Silk Garden (you’ll need about 6 skeins, 3 of each colourway). After we were done knitting we washed our scarf in Eucalan to soften it up – and now it’s AWESOMENESS!

NEW Noro Kureopatora!

New from Noro for Spring 2015, Kureopatora (japanese for Cleopatra) is a great new take on a single ply 100% wool. Softer than Kureon, it’s made from a lofty blend of merino wool. It’s got incredible yardage and comes in super bight & pretty colours. It also has a slightly sheep-chic quality (it does not smell like barn, there are not any twigs in it, but it’s lofty and there’s a smidge of lanolin in it – enough to pretty-up your cuticles). Currently, we’re working with it on a Noro Striped Scarf and a Langfield Hat (photos to come) and we are in Noro heaven! Plus, the new issue of Noro Magazine is out with a pile of Kureopatorific patterns (see below).

NEW Yarn Noro Silk Garden Solo

Noro Silk Garden is a semi-solid version of our favourite self-striping yarn, Noro Silk Garden. The texture is enchanting – it’s a single ply with a little bit of halo. The colour is a mottled semi-solid with slightly tweedy qualities (but it is not a true tweed).  It looks great worked on it’s own or paired with a contrasting self-striping yarn like Noro Silk Garden. It isn’t the softest yarn on the market, but it’s comfortable to knit with and wear, and it softens up quite a bit with a wash in Eucalan
  • 45% Silk, 45% Mohair, 10% Lambs Wool
  • 50g/100m (109yds)
  • Worsted Weight
  • 4.5mm needles
  • 18 sts + 24 rows = 4″/10cm
  • Single ply
  • Semi-solid, tweedy

New Yarn Noro Taiyo Sock

NEW Noro Taiyo Sock

Noro Taiyo Sock isn’t a brand new yarn, but over the last year or so they’ve come out with some STUNNING new colourways which have made us give this yarn a second look. It’s a wonderful, colourful, self-striping fingering weight yarn. It is soft and cool (there’s very little wool in it), and is great for wear all year round. You can use it for socks, shawls, and wraps. We think it looks especially beautiful knit up in the Bermuda Scarf (it’s really a wrap), Inspira Cowl (Free!), Joshephine Shawl (Free!), Mon Petit Gilet Raye (cute cardigan, also Free), the Petal CowlLanesplitter Skirt (Free), Entrelac Scarf (Free), or a Babette Blanket.

  • 50% Cotton, 17% Wool, 16% Silk, 17% Polyamide
  • Fingering weight/Sock yarn
  • 2.5mm to 3mm (US 2 to 3) needles
  • 24 to 26 sts & 36 to 38 rows = 4″ (10cm)

  • Noro Spring-Spiration

March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. At some point around the last week of March ther’s almost always  a week of warm, sunny, and glorious weather. I call it the teaser week, after it follows cold, grey, rainy weather. That’s ok, wool and colour will get us through the last leg of winter.

    New FREE Pattern: Simple Gauntlets

These gauntlets are fast, simple, and very satisfying. They make quick, easy gifts that stand out.

They use 1 skein of Noro Odori, a soft & comfortable yarn that changes colour all by itself (it feels like Noro Taiyo, but it’s thicker). The yarn’s texture and depth of colour works with the simple design to create extra interest and a unique, handmade aesthetic.

    New Noro Magazine

“Many, many years ago, Eisaku Noro took a leap of faith. Trusting his experience and knowledge, his instincts and determination, he envisioned creating a yarn like no other. So many exuberant entrepreneurial moments like this end without success, but not this one. We can only imagine how hard Mr. Noro worked to market a yarn so overtly individual and carve a growing niche in a hand-knitting market dominated by single-color balls and skeins.

Speaking for the knitters of the world, we say: Bravo, Mr. Noro! Your vision inspires us: We are mesmerized as stitch after stitch forms and falls from our needles. We expect the unexpected, crave the next color, and are often hopelessly addicted. Our editors are voracious Noro knitters, so putting together this magazine has been an exciting experience for us. We congratulate the talented designers who embraced the unique qualities of Noro yarns, experimented with shape and form, color and construction, and created such inspiring results.”
