Nutmeag made these Striped Baby Legwarmers (free pattern Legwarmies) with 1 ball of Rialto DK Print and 1 ball of contrasting yarn.  Or Try Hopscotch (another free pattern) for children’s sizes.

Make a Caramel cardie (free pattern) using Rialto DK Print alternated with a solid contrast colour of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK

I think it would make an amazing Chevron Baby Blanket (use 4mm needles and cast on 193sts for a blanket about 31″ wide) but keep in mind the striping will be much narrower.

More modest striping options: use  Rialto DK Print alternated with a solid contrast colour of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK for pattern OhLaLa

NEW – The Knitter’s Year by Debbie Bliss

The Knitter’s Year by Debbie Bliss

The latest great new book by Debbie Bliss just landed, “The Knitter’s Year: 52 Make-in-a-Week Projects, Quick Gifts and Seasonal Knits”!  As the title suggestes it’s a bunch of small projects that you can make in under a week and will leave you with a great sense of satisfaction.  Some of the projects are as small as a floral corsage, and go up to as large as a pair of socks. Other fun projects include cushions, flower pot cozies, booties, clothes pin bag, bags, votive candle covers, gloves, pencil case, sachets, a simple baby cardie, sewing needle case, a beret, baby hat, Christmas ornaments, Christmas stocking, scarves, hot water bottle cover, slippers, PDA cozy, pincushion, draft stopper, mug cozy, tea cozy (matching the mug, of course!), handwarmers, flags, pot holders, clothes hanger, a belt, bead necklace, washcloth, and a basket. The patterns are sorted by season, keeping things thematic. I don’t want to spoil the ending for you, but a good time was had by all.

New – Debbie Bliss Magazine Fall/Winter 2010!

Debbie Bliss Knitting Magazine Fall/Winter 2010

The new Debbie Bliss Magazine has arrived!  Like it’s predecessors, it’s a mix of old goodies & new patterns, and of course all are beautiful. Unfortunately, there aren’t any ‘official’ websites showing off the magazine, but I’ve managed to cull a good sampling.  Among the newbies is the “Scottish Eccentrics“, full of beautiful colourwork. There are another 2 sections of newbies, one Holiday related and the other casual sweaters – but you’ll just have to pick up a copy to see for yourself.  As for some of the golden oldies (not all of them), see below:

New Book: Design It, Knit It Babies by Debbie Bliss

“Design It, Knit It Babies” is the follow-up to Debbie Bliss’s great adult book “Design It, Knit It”.  It comes with all of her knowledge and experience, but this time specializes in knits for babies. Each chapter comes with 2 patterns for all kinds for baby knits (cardies, blankets, jackets, pullovers, dresses, itts, scarf, beret, and legwarmers). Additionally, it includes knitter’s graph paper, alphabet charts and nursery motif charts. There are even pictures at the back you can use to make hand made tags for your gifts! A great resource for sure!
