Spring Holiday Inspiration Part 2: Easter

Rebecca Danger makes great toys, you may know her from books such as The Big Book of Knitted Monsters.  These toylets are not only free, but they can be made with bits of leftover yarn. If you want to make a bigger chirp, just use thicker yarn.

Bunny Nuggets are also a Rebecca Danger joint – the lady’s good. The same rules apply as the Chirps above, you can use leftover yarn, and the size depends on the thickness of yarn used.

Fuzzy Mitten is another talented crafter of toys and her Freebie chicks are a quick & easy Easter project. It’s actually really hard to find egg-yolk yellow mohair, but all you need is a bit of worsted weight, yellow yarn (Cascade 220 Superwash or Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran).

Baaaaaaaaaaaaa! Fuzzy Mitten’s Laaaaaaaamb is adorable, Free, and if you wish you can purchase some simple clothing patterns for it (she also sells a second set of clothes, and a third and more elaborate set of outfits).

This little puppy is just too cute to be true. My little piece of a niece may have one in her near future.  🙂 Aran weight yarn is applicable, I’ll use Malabrigo Worsted or  or Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran.

Spring Holiday Inspiration Part 1: Passover

This pattern is completely unique and I feel it is, in concept, well worth the $12.50 the author is charging. Buy it through Ravelry to download it immediately, and the proceeds go to a charitable organization. Passover starts on the 19th this year, so you’ve got a few weeks to work up your little bits of Judaica.

Option 2 is less playful, but is just as nice. This pattern if a Freebie and comes with a little tutorial. It uses fingering/sock weight yarn and a 3 or 3.25mm (D) hook.

Addi Lace Click Sets!

Skacel Addi Lace Click ~ $179.95

The addi Lace Click system provides 8 pairs of addi Lace tips (US 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, or metric 3.5, 3.75, 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5, 6, ad 8mm) along with 5 blue addi cords which create 16”, 20”, 24”, 32”, and 40” needles (approximate lengths), 1 Click connector, and a gold addi heart pin.  The Lace Click tips were created to be shorter in length, to allow for both 16” and 20” applications (you can use them for hats and necks!). The Click tips require no tools to change; simply insert the cord deep into the tip, twist and release. The tips will remain secure until you change them. If you love addi Turbo Lace needles, this interchangeable set is the way to go. Have all the needles you need in one convenient carrying case. The Lace Click set is also now nickel plated, like the regular set. The 24”, 32”, and 40” cords will work with other turbo sets, but the 16”, 20” will only work smoothly with the Lace Click needles.

Holiday Diversions – Free Fingerless Mitties

Many of the links posted here are from Ravelry.com, a free website for knitters and crocheters. If you don’t have your own account you can use ours: login: knitomatic2, password: knitomatic. But you should get your own account fast, ’cause you’re going to LOVE it!

It’s not really a try last minute gift, but this is what I have been thinking about lately ….. fingerless gloves/mitts/gauntlets (whatever they are called). It’s more of a “keep yourself occupied over the holiday” kind of theme.  Plus, the mitties are a project which travel well.

If you have problems with the DPNs on the move, you can try a few other alternatives, including knitting with 2 circular needles, the magic loop technique using 1 long circular needle, or picking up a pair of really short circulars (addi makes 12cm circs ad clover makes 9cm circs).  If you have the DPNs keep them around to finish the thumb (if applicable)

Oh, and included below is a slew of different skill levels, ranging from Absolute Beginner to Intermediate, but they are organized in order of prettiness of pictures.
