Mineville Wool Project Merino DK (3103) is soft, machine washable, easy to work with, easy to wear, and subs easily for other DK weight yarns (Debbie Bliss Rialto, Madeline Tosh DK, etc). It comes in a generous 100g/200m skein, which is enough to make an adult hat or pair of mitts (you’ll need two for a scarf or Honey Cowl, and about 6 for a women’s size medium sweater – check your pattern for full yardage requirements). The hand-painted colours are vivd, saturated and GORGEOUS. Plus, it’s extremely affordably and competitively priced for a super soft, machine washable, hand dyed merino wool (it costs about the same price or less than a commercially machine dyed merino wool).

Mineville Wool Project is a new “off-brand” brand from the sisters at Fleece Artist and Handmaiden. The prices are excellent because we purchase the yarn in one-time only lots. This means that once it’s gone, it’s GONE, so be sure to order enough for your project, because we may never be able to get this base again.

FREEBIE Thrummed Mitten Kits

Fleece Artist Thrum Kit DISPLAY 2

Fleece Artist Thrum Kit DISPLAY

Fleece Artist Thrummed Mitten Kits

Thrumming is a very old technique that is seriously fun and functional. Small tufts of roving (wool that hasn’t been spun into yarn yet) are knit into the garment creating a fuzzy warm layer on the inside and irresistible dots of colour the outside. As you wear them, the thrummed roving felts down, keeping your hands warm and cozy (take note dog owners, these are ideal winter dog walking mitts).

Each kit is individually hand dyed, no two will be exactly alike and the mittens will be the colour of the yarn and the thrums (roving) will peek through. This kit can also be used to make Thrummed Socks (great as house-socks or slippers) and does not include needles (3.5mm/US4 double pointed needles).

Kit Includes

  • Pattern & instructions  (or you can download them free HERE)
  • Yarn: Fleece Artist Blue Face Leicester Aran, 125g (100% wool)
  • Roving: 60g (100% wool)
  • Sizes included: Child, Adult Small, Adult Medium, and Adult Large.

FREEBIE Norse Scarf/Wrap

norse-scarf-1

Norse Scarf

This oversized, cosy and cocooning accessory features beautiful texture and cable detail. It’s knit in chunky weight yarn, try Malabrigo MechaBerroco Vintage Chunky, or Cascade Eco.

Size

Completed scarf measures 51.5cm/20.5″ wide and 220cm/86.5″ long

Optional Modifications

Note the size of this ‘scarf’ is LARGE – it’s 20.5″/51.5cm wide (a standard scarf is usually about 6″/15cm wide and 72″/180cm long). If you want to make yours smaller or larger (to make it as a wrap) you can alter the width in increments of the pattern repeat: 14 stitches at the cast-on (before the transitional increase on R8) or 19 stitches in cable pattern (after the increase on R8). 19 stitches in the cable patterns should equal approximately 4″/10cm”:

  • Cast on 105 sts = approx 28.5″/57cm wide (6 pattern repeats)
  • Cast on 91 sts =approx 24.5″/61cm wide (5 pattern repeats)
  • Cast on 77 sts = approx 20.5″/51.5cm wide (4 pattern repeats)
  • Cast on 63 sts =approx 16.5″/41cm wide (3 pattern repeats)
  • Cast on 49 sts = approx 12.5″/31cm wide (2 pattern repeats)
  • Cast on 35 sts = approx 8.5″/21cm wide (1 pattern repeat)

Each pattern repeat represents about 19% of the total amount of yarn required (about 228m/250yds).

Yarn Options

Amounts are based on the optional modifications above. The largest quantity is for the original size written in the pattern.

1(2, 3, 4) pattern repeats:

Malabrigo Mecha: 5(7, 9, 10) skeins

Berroco Vintage Chunky: 4(6, 8, 10) skeins

Cascade Eco: 2(2, 3, 3) skeins
