This simple wrap makes for great TV knitting! Stave off the chill wind with this cosy shawl, which pays homage to the dragon of lore with a slipped garter colorwork pattern that hints of scales. It’s worked in garter stitch from tip to edge, then neatly finished with I-cord bind-off. Asymmetrical increases create an elongated triangle shape. Size: 83“ [210 cm] wingspan along top edge and 25.5“ [65 cm] width.

The Hug Shot is a new, forthcoming pattern from Casapinka. It’s an asymmetric rectangle (or “boomerang”) shawl that begins at the small end and ends up with a wide border at the opposite end. There are slipped stitches, garter and stockinette making it a fairly easy project. The pattern is knit on 4mm/US6 needles. If you only want the pattern and aren’t into the kit, check in with Casapinka in about a week, when the pattern will be released.

Ancient Arts Socknado is a beautiful fingering weight blend of super soft superwash merino wool and nylon (80/20). We don’t currently carry it in store, but I’ve swatched it and it meets my approval (it rated 2 out of 3 smiley faces, which is pretty good because three smiley faces is OMG, WTF, YES! YES! YES!). Socknado comes in 100g skeins of 350m each, so if you just like the colours and aren’t into this particular pattern you’ll have lots of yarn for another project (or two). It’s ideal for all kinds of knits & crochets, including socks (my mind is conjuring up some super funky baby garments). Socknado is Canadian made and hand dyed by extremely lovely people in Calgary Alberta.
We just received a new order form Kelbourne Woolens and in addition to carrying their beautiful Mojave cotton/linen blend for spring and summer (it deserves it’s own post) we got some really cool accessories and kits too!

We just finished making our FREE Easy Garter Scarfy Wrap with one of the new multi-coloured Handmaiden Casbah 5ply Gradient Wrap Kits – I knew it would come out beautifully! Handmaiden always comes up with interesting colour combinations that I wouldn’t normally think of, and the pop of colour is just what’s needed on dreary winter days.
Fleece Artist’s Thrummed Mitten Kits are back, just in time to whip up a pair in time winter (the Farmer’s Almanac has forecast a cold winter for Canada). These mitts are SERIOUSLY warm and cosy, and are a must-have for anyone who spends time outside (like dog owners and the person in the house who does the shovelling).
Thrumming is a very old technique that is seriously fun and functional. Small tufts of roving (wool that hasn’t been spun into yarn yet) are knit into the garment creating a fuzzy warm layer on the inside and irresistible dots of colour the outside. As you wear them, the thrummed roving felts down, keeping your hands warm and cozy (take note dog owners, these are ideal winter dog walking mitts). The mittens will be the colour of the yarn and the thrums (roving) will peek through. This kit can also be used to make Thrummed Socks (great as house-socks or slippers)! Each kit is individually hand-dyed, no two will be exactly alike. Kit does not include needles: 3.5mm/US4 double pointed needles are required.
Pattern & instructions (or you can download them free HERE)
Yarn: Fleece Artist Blue Face Leicester Aran, 125g (100% wool)
Roving: 60g (100% wool)
Sizes included: Child, Adult Small, Adult Medium, and Adult Large.
