Some Recent Store Samples

This hat looks great, I’m so happy with hour it turned out. I think I’ll turn the buttons around, they’re a bit shiny for my taste. Liane says this pattern knit up beautifully in Berroco Vintage Chunky.

I don’t think this hat is quite suited for me, but the yarn is GORGEOUS!
  • FREE pattern via Ravelry
  • 1 skein Malabrigo Worsted, colour 626 navidad
  • 3.75m-16″ circular needles
  • 4.5mm-16″ circular needles + double pointed needles

I made this one for the hell of it – I think it would be great for people with big heads & lots of hair (dreads especially). The yarn is super-duper soft & airy – a very atypically friendly mohair.
  • Pattern from Berroco no. 339
  • 1 skein Berroco Cirrus, colour 2510 grand canyon
  • 4.5mm-16″ circular needles
  • 6mm-16″ circular needles + double pointed needles

Basic Slouchy Hat
Liane whipped this simple hat up for our classes.

  • 2 skeins Schulana Angora Fashion
  • 5.5mm-16″ circular & double pointed needles
  • Pattern is published in Vogue Knitting Holiday 2008, the book Hattitude, and is available as a PDF download for $5. It’s a basic slouchy toque, you could use any pattern, I cast on 66 sts and knit it from the bottom-up – see my Ravelry notes

I really, really, really like this hat. It looks great on my little head and i think it’ll also look great on all sizes. It was easy, fast, and it looks great – I’m going to make it my go-to fall hat. The yarn is really cool, it has a core of silver wrapped in an outer layer of super soft cotton-candy-esque baby alpaca & merino. My photo does not do it justice.

KITS Shibui Mix no. 6 Slouchy Toque

KITS Shibui Slouchy Toque (Mix no. 6)

We’ve put together some kits for Shibui’s sumptuous Slouchy Toque, minimistically named “Mix no. 6.”  The creatives at Shibui are big on blending, combining, and experimenting with their yarns.  This particular hat combines their delicious Baby Alpaca DK with the soft & luminous Silk Cloud, to form a soft fabric with drape, warmth, and a lovely depth of colour + texture.

Kit Includes
  • 1 skein Shibui Baby Alpaca DK
  • 1 skein Shibui Silk Cloud
  • pattern
  • clear zipper project bag
  • currently available in Nude (pink, see below), Ivory + Graphite
  • $44.97

Kit does not contain knitting needles or other notions required: 3.75mm-16″ circular needles, 4.5mm-16″ circular + double pointed needles, stitch marker, darning needle.

We made our adult sized sample to the pattern directions and used less than half of the yarn. One kit should furnish 2 medium sized slouchy hats (21-22″ head), or one large slouchy hat (23-24″) and one child sized hat. You can see our project notes on Ravelry.

New Free Hat Pattern from Knit-O-Matic!

Simply Ribbed Hat in Noro Silk garden
Simply Ribbed Hat in Manos Maxima
FREE Pattern by Haley Waxberg for Knit-O-Matic

This is a very simply styled hat that anyone and everyone can make and wear. The 1 x 1 rib helps the hat keep it’s shape and gives it a denisity for warmth. If the ribbing seems tight, don’t worry, we are making it tight on purpose because silk has a tendency to grow. We’ve also made it in a 100% merino wool, which is great beacuse it is soft and has lots of body (it’s puffy by nature). If you would like to substitute another yarn, consider going up to a 4mm needle (or a size 0.5mm less than the median suggested size on the ballband).

NEW Fun With Short-Rows Part One: The Short-Row Hat/Slouch

Skill Level: beginner (after scarves), Instructor Liane Schwarz
Tuesday Jan 19 & 26, 6-8pm
A great introduction to the usefulness of short-rows, this workshop will show you how to shape hats with short rows. With the choice of making a slouchy or toque style hat, you will learn how to cast on provisionally, how to increase and decrease with wrapped stitchs, how to pick-up wrapped stitches, and how to graft your hat together seamlessly. Knowing how to knit is the only requisite.
  • Consists of 2 sessions over 2 weeks.
  • $80 + tax (includes materials)
