Cascade Knitterati Gradient Lapghan Knit-Along Kit

The kits have ARRIVED! Well, mostly – the alternate colourway kits made it, but some of the Original colourway kits were back-ordered, and the greys in the Orignal Colourway kits are back-ordered a few weeks, but you won’t need them for a bit and we will get them to you when they arrive.

Cascade Yarns had so much fun with last year’s 30th Anniversary Afghan that they created an all-new mystery design for 2018! The Gradient Lapghan Knit-along starts March 2018, and a new pattern will be released every three weeks for a year. There will be 16 squares in all—created by 16 top designers. Click here for the list of Gradient Lapghan Knit-along Designers.

The Knitterati Gradient Lapghan is made with four shades of four colours in Cascade 220 Superwash Merino, 20 skeins in all. The first square pattern will be released in March 2018, with a new square revealed every three weeks in 2018.

New Project & Kit: Shibui Mix Shawl


Our lovely and prolific Rosie just finished this store sample, the Shibui Mix no. 3 Shawl, made with sumptuous Shibui Staccatto and Silk Cloud! 

I was planning it as a kit for the upcoming Toronto Knitter’s Frolic (please don’t forget to take our survey), but it was so lovely I dropped everything and immediately whipped up the kits and put them out. I don’t know if the kits will last the month until to the Frolic, but I’m sure I’ll come up with something else, equally wonderful and clever.

At Shibui, sometimes two strands are better than one. They are very into combining yarns to create incredible aesthetic effects. This shawl alternates stripes of a single strand of Shibui Silk Cloud (silk & softest kid mohair) and two strands of luxe Shibui Staccatto (squishy silk + merino with a slight sheen) held with Shibui Silk Cloud. The overall effect is soft and airy, yet also geometric – very modern, elegant, and never boring.

We’ve put together some kits for Shibui’s sumptuous Slouchy Toque, minimistically named “Mix no. 6.”  The creatives at Shibui are big on blending, combining, and experimenting with their yarns.  This particular hat combines their delicious Baby Alpaca DK with the soft & luminous Silk Cloud, to form a soft fabric with drape, warmth, and a lovely depth of colour + texture.

Kit does not contain knitting needles or other notions required: 3.75mm-16″ circular needles, 4.5mm-16″ circular + double pointed needles, stitch marker, darning needle.



We made our adult sized sample to the pattern directions and used less than half of the yarn. One kit should furnish 2 medium sized slouchy hats (21-22″ head), or one large slouchy hat (23-24″) and one child sized hat. You can see our project notes on Ravelry.

New Pattern – Frolic Shawl
We introduced this pattern at the DKC Knitter’s Frolic last weekend and now we are making it available for everyone! It’s a quick & satisfying little spring knit, and only uses  2 skeins of yarn: 1 Noro Taiyo and 1 Berroco Remix.

Easy Lace Shrug Kit

We just finished this lace shrug and it turned out so beautifully we thought it would make a perfect Cottage Kit! The kit includes 2 skeins of Dream in Color Classy, the easy pattern, and a zipper bag to stash it all in. The yarn is hand painted, machine washable merino wool. The whole thing knits up on 5mm needles, and that’s about all there is to it! The lace is a 12 row pattern repeat and is very easy – you can definitely do it on the dock.

Burrrr, it’s cold out there!  If you’ve been finding yourself muttering insults directed to the weather, you may be a good candidate for a pair of thrum mittens. Thrum mittens are super warm and soft becuase you weave in roving (unspun wool) and you knit them. It sounds complicated, but it’s not, I promise! 3.5mm double pointed needles are required (not included in kit). Say hi to happy hands!

NEW – Ma Belle Baby Kimono Kit

Ma Belle is a super pretty little Kimono Cardigan made with 2 skeins of Dream in Color Classy, a soft, hand dyed, machine washable wool.  We made out store sample with the colour Petal Shower in size 2 years and we had more than enough yarn leftover to make a hat. This pattern is super-duper pretty and not at all hard to make. The kit is currently $44, but prices may vary based on the exchange rate (for better or worse) and customs duties.
