Drachenfels Wrap Kit

This simple wrap makes for great TV knitting! Stave off the chill wind with this cosy shawl, which pays homage to the dragon of lore with a slipped garter colorwork pattern that hints of scales. It’s worked in garter stitch from tip to edge, then neatly finished with I-cord bind-off. Asymmetrical increases create an elongated triangle shape. Size: 83“ [210 cm] wingspan along top edge and 25.5“ [65 cm] width.

Kit

The Drachenfels Wrap Kit features a stunning shawl pattern is by Melanie Berg. It contains one skein of Urth Yarns Uneek Fingering and two skeins of Urth Yarns Monokrom Fingering (a total of1200m of fingering weight merino yarn per kit). Each kit comes packaged in a clear plastic bag with full-colour insert. Both yarns are super soft 100% superwash merino wool, made and hand-dyed in Turkey. The pattern recommends a 4mm/US6 and 5mm/US8 needle.

The brown colourway in the photographs is 03. The purple is colourway 02 (photos by Ninkka).

We’re selling these kits as a pre-order and are not intending to stock them regularly in the store – they’ll function almost like a special order, and you have the option to order it any time (it will be available to purchase as long as the manufacturer makes it available to us). INSPIRATION Adrift

Adrift

Rosie finished her Adrift cardigan last week and I wanted to show you how gorgeous it is! The yarn, Urth Uneek Fingering (ON SALE NOW!) is absolutely gorgeous, the striping turned out beautifully for both the arms and the body.

The pattern isn’t specifically intended to be worn oversized, but you know how mannequins are – one size fits all. The pattern is written from the top down, so it’s easy to make it as large or small as you like, and the sleeves can be short, 3/4, or long, it’s super simple to make adjustments.

If stripes aren’t your thing you can also make it in a solid, semi-solid, or variegated colourway, so you can substitute any fingering weight yarn (the number of skeins required would be the same as in the materials below).

Size

  • To fit bust: 30 (33, 36, 39, 42, 45, 48, 51, 54)”/ 76 (84, 91.5, 99, 106.5, 114.5, 122, 129.5, 137.5) cm

Adrift

I know it’s really hard for a lot of people to visualize what a yarn will look like knit up, especially when it is a self-patterning or self-striping yarn like Urth Uneek Fingering. So as my friend Rosie has progressed on the above cardigan, I’ve thought a lot of people would like to see what it can look like. The thickness of the stripes and the exact pooling are of course dependent on the number of stitches cast on, but I think this gives you a good idea of what the yarn can do. I especially love the ‘pooling’, The stripes are kind of groovy and random, a bit missoniesque. The pattern is Adrift, a simple, unstructured top-down cardie with swingy fronts – the perfect canvas for a stunning yarn. Thank you for sharing your beautiful sweater with us Rosie!!!

I find really interesting things when I browse through the patterns on Ravelry …. one of the things I found this week was a micro-collection of the same cowl made over and over again in different colourways of Urth Uneek Fingering (ON SALE UNTIL THE END OF JULY). I thought it was awesome that this knitter, Deb-Knits, enjoyed her project and the yarn so much that she wanted to continue exploring and experiencing it. I also get it, the project is GORGEOUS, and it illustrates that all the colourways of Urth Uneek Fingering work up beautifully. And hey, is it ever too early to start holiday knitting?

With only one week left in our Summer Sale, I thought this might be a nice change of pace from linen and cotton … a fun, colourful top made with Urth Uneek Fingering (ON SALE UNTIL THE END OF JULY). The pattern shows off this stunning self-striping yarn, which I think it definitely deserves. Urth Uneek Fingering is a hand-dyed, self-striping, super smooth and soft merino superwash yarn. It’s made by an environmentally conscious and compassionate family company in Turkey, and straight up, it’s happy yarn.
