NEW Louet/Kollage Interchangeable Needle Sets

We just got the new Louet/Kollage Interchangeable Needle Sets and they are LOVELY! I’m seriously feeling extremely enthusiastic and looking forward to see what they make next.  Please note, these needles are SQUARE shaped, which many people find extremely comfortable (some find them easier to use, I’ve always found them enjoyable). Hopefully an interchangeable round needle set will be forthcoming too?

Anyway, these are the things I love about the Louet/Kollage Interchangeable Needle Set:

  • The needles are Beautiful. They’re smooth, elegant, a gorgeous medium grey aluminum.
  • The size markings are ETCHED in the needle, so they won’t be going anywhere.
  • The cables/cords are extremely pliable.
  • The needles can rotate once they are connected to the cables.
  • The join is quite smooth (at least on the ones I tried)
  • The case for the FULL set is GREAT! It’s sturdy and extremely well made. It has space for a second set of needles (presumably for when they come out with a set of shorter tips?), as well as two large clear pouches for more cords (so you can see what you are looking for), and another zipper pouch on the outside of the case. The case along could easily retail for at least $50.
  • The case for the MINI set is lovely. It’s pretty, slim, well made, and easy to use.
  • The Youtube video (see below) on how to connect and disconnect them is clear and easy to follow.

I recommend watching this video before diving into your Louet/Kollage Interchangeable Needle Set, their system is kind-of novel.

SUMMER PROJECT Liesl

 

Liesl

Liesl is my current ‘go-to’ sweater in the summer heat. (I know, it’s really hot outside, sweaters aren’t at the top of your sartorial to-do list. But we all have places to be where a little modesty is required, and even more of us have parts we’re self conscious about and want to cover up.) This incarnation of Liesl is super light weight and totally open an lacy, very summery. The pattern is super easy, extremely well written, and the lace is beginner friendly.

We made a few modifications, you can check out Our Project Notes. Since we changed the yarn size we wen’t down a needle size and up one garment size, and it came out perfect! It’s also a very economical knit, we only used two skeins of Cascade Ultra Pima. You could also take advantage of our SUMMER SALE and up-sell yourself to a linen like Louet Euroflax Sport or Quince & Co Sparrow. Heck, it’s so affordable and such a fast knit, if you like it you could make a whole stack of Liesls, one for every day of the week!

PROJECT IDEA Donner

Donner

Donner is a basic wardrobe piece that looks good on everyone and will never go out of style (hey, you put a lot of work into your knits,they should be something that you use and love). It’s designed with luxe Quince & Co Sparrow, but you can also use Louet Euroflax Sport that has a bit more textural interest, or silky (and budget conscious) Cascade Ultra Pima.

Keep in mind, plant fibres like linen have a lot of stretch and drape, you might want to consider making a size smaller than normal.

  • Finished Bust: 34 (37¼, 40, 43¼, 46, 48¾, 51¼, 54, 57¼, 60)” or 86.5 (95, 101.5, 110, 117, 123.5, 130.5, 137, 145.5, 152.5) cm
  • Suggested ease at bust: + 4 to 6” [+10 to 15 cm], at upper arm: + ¾ to 1” [+ 2 to 2.5 cm]

Another elegant freebie from those clever girls at Purl Soho! Tulip is a simple tank that crosses over in the back, creating a clever design detail with little effort. The project involves a few short rows, so it isn’t for the absolute beginner, but an advanced beginner or intermediate knitter should be ok.

It calls for Louet Euroflax Sport, but you could also go a notch more luxe with Quince & Co Sparrow, or shift down to silky soft and budget friendly Cascade Ultra Pima.

Simple, interesting, light and airy, this summer sweater has it all. It’s a perfect cover-up in warm weather or layer it for effect. The fit is oversized and summer yarns tend to have a lot of drape and stretch, so check the measurements – you might want to make a smaller size than normal. Plus, dropped stitches are easy and make for fast knitting. Silky, soft and very affordable Cascade Ultra Pima would make for a great sweater, or for more texture and tactile interest try a linen like Louet Euroflax Sport or satin smooth Quince & Co Sparrow.

I’ve been eyeballing this cardi-wrap for years, but I wasn’t convinced until I saw it worked up in a drapey yarn (see the pics above by miastick). It’s such a simple, comfy summer knit! I tihnk it would be perfect made with Louet Euroflax Sport, but you can also sub silky & soft Cascade Ultra Pima or Cascade Ultra Pima Paints for a more wallet-happy version. I also thought it would be perfect for Spring, Fall, or chilly offices all year round, made with the very economical Mineville Wool Project Angora Wool.

Notes

Keep in mind that cotton and linen make stretchy textiles, so consider making a size smaller if you are using them.

PROJECT Swingy Linen Skirt

Swingy Linen Skirt

This project isn’t a freebie, but sometimes it’s best to pay for a good pattern – knitted skirts are one of those.  Customers occasionally ask me about knitted skirts, especially for the summer, and I think this one looks great. Linen isn’t a light-weight fibre, but it’s cool to the touch, and wears like a monster. It’s drape is also perfect for a swingy, casual skirt.

Notes

One note about both linen and skirts – they grow and stretch – so don’t make your skirt longer than needed (you might even want to go a bit shorter and add to it after if you want more length).

Sizes

Hips:  32 (34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52)”;  81 (86, 91, 97, 102, 107, 112, 117, 122, 127, 132)cm

Waist: 4”/10cm less than hips; adjust with elastic.
