PROJECT So Faded

so faded 1

So Faded

I’ve seen a lot of buzz about this pattern online, and since I find colour combining infinitely entertaining, I figured I’d give it a closer look! It’s super pretty, very simple, and available in an adult size or child’s version. Plus the yarn is light enough for knitting in the warmer weather – a great project to take to the cottage or on vacation! See Patterns HERE.

Mineville Yarn Project Merino Sock

Soft, supple with a perfect 2ply twist, this 80% Merino Wool, 20% Nylon fingering weight yarn is simply beautiful. Spun in Italy, it is just right for everything from a lovely lace shawl, to socks, mitts, sweaters and hats. Machine washability makes it an easy choice for everyday wear. One skein will knit one pair of women’s socks.

Mineville Wool Project is a relatively new “off-brand” brand from the sisters at Fleece Artist and Handmaiden. The prices are excellent because we purchase the yarn in one-time only lots. This means that once it’s gone, it’s GONE, so be sure to order enough for your project.

Breton & Mini Knit Hack

Breton 1

Breton

Another Ravelry find, an oldie but a goodie!  I love Breton’s simple lines and attention to detail in the tailoring – to me that means a great fit. If you take a look at the pictures below – the shoulders are designed on the back of the shoulder, just like the sweaters you buy in a store. The neckline is also rally nice (it’s Brooklyn Tweed, I wouldn’t expect anything less).

The pattern is made with a fingering weight (sock weight) yarn, some great options for semi-solid or veil dyed colours include Manos del Uruguay Alegria WatercoloursMalabrigo Mechita, and of course Madeline Tosh Tosh Merino Light. If you want to use a variegated yarn you might want to skip the stripes and use Manos del Urugay Alergria or Koigu KPPPM.

Knit Hack

Each skein of hand dyed yarn, even if they are from the same dye lot, are slightly different. The only way to ensure a consistent colour distribution in your work is to work with two skeins at the same time, and alternate the skeins every row or every other row. It isn’t hard to do, you don’t ever need to cut the yarn, you just carry the yarns up the side, like when you make stripes (instructions: http://www.vogueknitting.com/pattern_help/how-to/beyond_the_basics/horizontal_stripes).

If you don’t alternate skeins you are liable to end up with blocks of colour that are slightly different. This technique can also be helpful if the colours in your hand painted/dyed yarn are pooling and you want an even colour distribution.

.

FREEBIE Lightweight Pullover

Lightweight Raglan Pullover

If you troll Ravelry regularly you might have seen this one, but I think it is a great project. It’s made with fingering weight yarn on 3.5mm/US4 needles, making it a light, easy knit to wear. The basic construction keeps things elegant but simple for summer knitting. The subtle curve at the bottom is created with short rows – a mini-skill challenge for beginners. A great garment for cool summer nights, all spring and fall. And of course there are always lots of yarn options when it comes to fingering weight yarn …..
